IFOY AWARD 2022
The winners are ...
The winners of the IFOY AWARD 2022 have been announced: Congratulations to Jungheinrich, Locus Robotics, Noyes Technologies, robominds, SSI SCHÄFER and SYNAOS!
The international jurors had nominated 14 solutions and devices in six categories for the tenth round of the worldwide intralogistics competition and voted on the winners after a three-part audit.
The results in detail:
Jungheinrich won the IFOY AWARD in the “Special Vehicle” category with its ERD 220i double-deck stacker. The truck sets new standards for a safe, optimally protected and yet super-compact electric pallet truck, judged the jury. The performance was first-class and challenged the competition, the jurors added.
The winner in the category “Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV/AMR)” was Locus Robotics with its Locus Robotics AMR Solution. The collaborative AMR, with which retailers, contract logistics companies, but also industrial companies can greatly improve their efficiency, scored points with the testers and innovation checkers due to its high degree of innovation and its high market relevance in the light of the rapidly growing online trade and the demand for cost-effective solutions to increase throughput.
A total of three young companies qualified for the final round in the “Start-up of the Year” category this year with their innovative products and solutions. The winner in the end was the Munich-based start-up Noyes Technologies with its first robotically operated, automated and highly flexible nano-logistics system Noyes Storage for urban logistics. The IFOY Innovation Checkers awarded the solution the highest possible number of points in the categories of market relevance, customer benefit, degree of innovation and functionality/type of implementation. The fact that customers from almost all industries can benefit from significantly improved space utilisation with the help of the system also impressed the test team and the jury.
For the tenth round of the global competition, the Robotics + Automation Association within the VDMA entered the “Robot” category at the IFOY AWARD 2022 as a sponsor. Here, the Munich-based company robominds won with its AI-based robobrain.NEUROS – an industrialised operating system for intelligent robotics. According to the jury, the market relevance of a manufacturer-neutral and reliable robotics operating system with support for AI-based processes can be classified as very high.
The “Integrated Warehouse Solutions” category is one of the top categories at the IFOY AWARD. In the final, SSI SCHÄFER prevailed with its IKEA Project Flat Pack Picking. With Flat Pack Picking, the company had implemented an automated and turnkey system solution for the safe and volume-optimised palletising of heavy and large items. The use of gantry robots enables the efficient handling of a very heterogeneous range of articles. The IFOY testers rated the solution as well engineered and interesting – also for other industries.
This year's winner in the category “Special of the Year” was SYNAOS with its SYNAOS IMS – Vehicle Localization for the complete localisation of transport vehicles. “The simple real-time localisation of all types of industrial trucks with the help of this very convincing localisation system helps customers on their way to the complete digitalisation of intralogistics,” judged the IFOY testers. In the IFOY Innovation Check, the solution scored points for its high market relevance.
The International Intralogistics and Forklift Truck of the Year (IFOY) AWARD honours the best intralogistics products and solutions of the year. It has established itself as an indicator of cost-effectiveness and innovation and is considered the definitive international innovation award in intralogistics due to its technical expertise. The basis for the decision is the three-stage audit –consisting of the IFOY test protocol comprising around 80 criteria, the scientific IFOY Innovation Check and the jury test. The decisive factor is that the nominees are not compared with each other, but with their competitor devices on the market.
IFOY 2022

The decision has been made, the winners of the IFOY AWARD 2022 have been announced: at the award ceremony in the BMW Welt in Munich, representatives of Jungheinrich, Locus Robotics, Noyes Technologies, robominds, SSI SCHÄFER and SYNAOS accepted the award, also known as the “Oscar of intralogistics”, from six laudators. A laudatory speech was held by Steffen Bersch (Chairman of the Board of the VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association), Andre Kranke (Head of Corporate Research & Development, Dachser), Raimund Paetzmann (Vice President Real Estate & Logistics Network Expansion at Zalando), Julia Jocher (Project Management Group7), Udo Schmidt (Managing Director Cascade Europe) and Dr Michael Nikolaides (Senior Vice President Production Network, Logistics, BMW Group).
TEST CAMP INTRALOGISTICS
Spot on innovation
Around 950 participants over six days, numerous innovations, daily highlight tours and a top-class congress programme with panel discussions: The IFOY TEST DAYS and the TEST CAMP INTRALOGISTICS generated an enthusiastic response in Dortmund. 14 products and solutions from twelve companies nominated for an International Intralogistics and Forklift Truck of the Year Award (IFOY AWARD) underwent six days of multi-stage testing. Among them were new developments from Cargotec Engineering, Jungheinrich, Locus Robotics, Magment, NAiSE, Noyes Technologies, robominds, SICK, SSI SCHÄFER, STILL, stow robotics and SYNAOS.
These and numerous other companies took the opportunity to present their innovations to potential customers at the TEST CAMP INTRALOGISTICS from March 21 to 23. The B2B visitors - most of them working in leading positions in logistics, industry and trade - travelled to the Ruhr metropolis for hands-on testing as well as intensive networking discussions in the more than 10,000 square metre hall of IFOY's partner Messe Dortmund. From forklift trucks and warehouse technology equipment to AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles), software, specials and robotic solutions, numerous devices and solutions were available in the test arena.
The talks revolved primarily around the topics of innovation and sustainability. The IFOY organisation also made sustainability a principle and took a number of measures to effectively conserve resources. The focus was on reusability and recycling, the use of regenerative energies and, above all, the fundamental renunciation of equipment that was not absolutely necessary. The declared aim was to launch a new, sustainable event format in logistics.
The congress programme celebrated its premiere this year with prominent panel discussions on the trend topics of innovation management, Intralogistics 4.0 and VDA 5050. The key note on the opening day was given by the internationally renowned logistics researcher Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Michael ten Hompel (Fraunhofer IML) on the topic of "How innovations change logistics".
The TEST CAMP INTRALOGISTICS also included a revival of the AGV Mesh-Up initiated by the VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association and its member companies. Following the world premiere of the first live test of the VDA 5050 communication interface in the previous year, the 2022 test scenario was relaunched and once again gave B2B visitors the opportunity to observe the functions of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) for themselves and to exchange ideas with developers and scientists. This year, not only some new manufacturers participated in the AGV Mesh-Up, but also extended functionalities of the communication interface were presented. Participants in the AGV Mesh-Up were the companies DS AUTOMOTION, ek robotics, Fraunhofer IML, incubed IT, Omron Electronics, SAFELOG, Siemens and SYNAOS.
"Best in Intralogistics" certificates for 2022 awarded
IFOY AWARD 2022
At the end of the IFOY TEST DAYS ( March 18 to 23) on the grounds of Messe Dortmund, the award organisation again presented the "Best in Intralogistics" certificates of the year 2022. Representatives of a total of twelve companies got the certificates in Hall 3. Cargotec Engineering, Jungheinrich, Locus Robotics, Magment, NAiSE, Noyes Technologies, robominds, SICK, SSI SCHÄFER, STILL, stow robotics and SYNAOS are allowed to present the coveted seal. This year, the certificates were presented by Steffen Bersch, the new Chairman of the Board of the VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association.
The well-known "Best in Intralogistics" seal was introduced four years ago and is intended to document visibly to the outside world the high degree of innovation of the devices and solutions nominated for an IFOY AWARD that have successfully passed the IFOY test.
The IFOY Audit 2022, which was conducted for the second time this year on the premises of the IFOY partner Messe Dortmund, lasts a total of six days. It includes various test series, whose results support the total of 25 jury members - renowned logistics trade journalists from all over the world - in their decision on the winners. In the IFOY Award, the nominees in a category are never compared with each other, but always with currently comparable products and solutions on the market. This ensures that the performance values and the innovation gap can be assessed objectively.
IFOY TEST DAYS 2022
IFOY AWARD Finalists in Test
Hall 3 of Messe Dortmund is the venue for the IFOY TEST DAYS 2022. From March 18 to 23, 14 products and solutions from twelve companies nominated for an IFOY AWARD 2022 will undergo the world's hardest intralogistics test.
