Øyvind studied history, political science and journalism at the University of Oslo. He worked freelance for the newspapers Hamar Dagblad, Aftenposten and Rogalands Avis in Norway before joining the leading Norwegian online news service Nettavisen in 1999. Together with his colleague and former IFOY jury member Glenn Lund, Øyvind has organized logistics conferences in Oslo (Logistikk22 and Logistikk23) for the past two years and he is also a moderator at numerous logistics events.

Innovation gets my vote. Making a product or system a little faster or stronger is fine, but completely new ideas are what drive us.

Interview

What makes an innovative solution?

What inspires me is a brilliant idea followed by a great implementation. The little invention that nobody has thought of yet and that takes a process or a product to another level – that’s what matters.

What is the most striking trend in intralogistics?

I find the development of micro-fulfilment solutions very interesting and I am very excited to see where this is going. Fast local delivery, whether in a store or other convenient locations for the customer, is something I think will increase in the near future. Perhaps along with shared automated storage facilities in urban areas or shopping centers.

What are the characteristics of a successful intralogistics solution?

In order to have a successful intralogistics solution, it must be adapted to the current task. At the same time, it must be flexible enough to cope with new trends or global developments quickly and without major investment. Because the only constant in this business is change.

What is decisive for your evaluation?

Innovation gets my vote. Making a product or system a little faster or stronger is fine, but completely new ideas are what drive us.
