Cecilia Bondi

Editor-in-Chief Editrice Temi

Cecilia Bondi (born 1970) graduated in philosophy in 1995 and began her career in Milan at Il Giornale della Vela/Portoria. This was followed by positions at JCE and Edimar/Marlboro Country Books before she joined her father Ernesto Salvioli’s publishing house as editor of the magazine DATACollection. In 2009, she took over as editor-in-chief of the newly acquired supply chain management title Logistica Management and in the following years became Editor-in-Chief of the magazines Impresa Sanità, La Cartoleria and Chimica Magazine.

Her areas of specialization range from automatic identification, data capture, logistics and supply chain management, lean management, personnel and materials management in hospitals to the overarching topics of innovation and efficiency.

In addition to writing and reading, Cecilia has many other passions such as sailing, trekking in the mountains, art, music and traveling. “Seize the day” is her motto, whatever the situation.

Advanced IT solutions such as AI or machine learning are becoming more important in intralogistics. But sustainability and employee satisfaction are also having an ever-increasing influence on the industry. There is still a lot of work to be done in both areas. The IFOY AWARD helps to exchange information and technologies worldwide.

Interview

What is the most striking trend in intralogistics at the moment?

On the one hand, there is autonomy and automation in the hardware and software. Thanks to advanced IT solutions such as AI or machine learning, robots, forklifts or AMRs can learn to find their way around and help people in a flexible way. On the other hand, the focus is on soft factors such as the working environment. With colors, windows, natural light, indoor plants and furnishings, people should feel better and work better. Italy has produced the first example of an urban artwork in a logistics park by Ceva and Prologis.

Can you remember the first IFOY winner who was also your favorite?

One of my favorites was the etaLINK 3000 wireless charging system from Wiferion. The inductive charging solution won in 2020 and is particularly ergonomic for electromobility in warehouses. It was immediately clear to us on the jury that this innovation would have a future. I hope that the solution will prevail.

How much has the focus on sustainability changed intralogistics?

Not enough. The climate crisis is a serious and pressing problem that should be tackled as efficiently as possible. Innovations that help companies with energy efficiency and resource conservation can help achieve this goal, but there is still much to be done, especially in terms of culture and people’s routines. Networking events such as the IFOY AWARD can help to spread this progress worldwide. In this way, logistics and the whole world will take another step towards sustainability in everyday work.

What is your highlight at the IFOY AWARD?

What I like most is the opportunity to exchange information between companies and people from different countries in a neutral environment. This allows you to understand and appreciate the real benefits of a solution or product in a direct and effective way. Don’t get me wrong when I say that what I like best is not, or not only, the choice of winners, but above all the testing phase, where you can see the nominees all together and get a vivid impression of the latest trends in intralogistics. Accordingly, I think that the Test Days have become an important event in intralogistics, and not just for the judges.
