IFOY Audit
Finalists undergo the three-stage IFOY Audit as part of the IFOY Audit, which takes place during the TEST CAMP INTRALOGISTICS. This consists of the scientific IFOY Innovation Check, the IFOY Test and the jury test.
MoboDrive ST redefines AGV and AMR drive technology by integrating traction and endless steering in the world’s most compact form, enabling smaller, highly maneuverable and safe robots. Its fully enclosed design eliminates typical clean-room challenges. As a plug&play drive solution, it provides full motion control and easy integration into the vehicle’s safety architecture, enabling customers to design smaller, space-saving robots that were previously not possible.

Special of the Year

MoboDrive ST is a compact, highly integrated steered-traction unit designed for highly maneuverable AMRs and AGVs. It combines a steering actuator with endless rotation, a high-torque traction motor, redundant encoder systems, and robust motor control electronics in a single module.
The system is ideal for omnidirectional drive platforms using one, two, or four units along with active or passive steering castors. With a minimal turning diameter of only 268 mm, it enables the creation of very small, agile robotic platforms.
Technically, the unit supports radial loads up to 1,200 kg (depending on the model) and maximum steering torque of up to 250 Nm. It operates on supply voltages from 24 to 60 V and supports industrial fieldbus communication protocols such as CAN, EtherCAT, and ProfiNET.
Thanks to its fully enclosed design with no exposed components, the MoboDrive ST eliminates the cleanliness challenges typically faced in clean-room environments such as electronics manufacturing, hospitals, and the food and pharmaceutical industries. For manufacturers of AMRs and AGVs, this has long been a significant obstacle. MoboDrive ST now provides a robust, hygienic, and reliable solution tailored to these demanding applications.
The MoboDrive ST is engineered for seamless integration into mobile robot platforms, accelerating development while enhancing reliability and safety.
Mobotic’s MoboDrive ST is a highly integrated drive and steering module for driverless industrial trucks (DITs), which combines all essential drive, steering, and control functions in a compact unit. The functionality encompasses the precise movement and positioning of vehicles in automated logistics environments, with particular emphasis on the integration of the motor, gearbox, sensor technology, and control system. The overall impression is positive, and the implementation is technically well thought-out. It is designed for high resilience in continuous industrial use. Aspects such as robustness, compact design, and reduced interface complexity characterize the high product quality. The effectiveness and efficiency of the design result in particular from the compact integration of the components, which reduces installation effort but, on the other hand, increases maintenance effort if individual faults and malfunctions affect the entire module.
The MoboDrive ST does not represent a completely disruptive innovation, but should be classified as a targeted further development of established drive-rotation modules. The overall degree of innovation is good, as the high integration density and compact design in particular stand out positively in the competitive landscape. Compared to the state of the art, the solution stands out due to the consistent consolidation of several functional units, which offers clear advantages in terms of installation space, weight, and system efficiency. Such integrative approaches are becoming increasingly relevant in the market and are offered here to a high standard. The innovation therefore lies less in a new basic function and more in the optimized system architecture and technical implementation. This should be regarded as an intelligent further development that represents added value, particularly for manufacturers of industrial trucks.
The solution is primarily aimed at manufacturers and integrators of driverless industrial trucks, as well as operators of automated logistics systems. The customer benefit is significant, as the compact and integrated design enables advantages such as reduced design complexity, potentially lower integration costs, and simplified maintenance. For OEMs, the benefits are particularly evident in the form of shorter development times and standardized interfaces. For end users, however, the benefits are more indirect, such as increased system reliability or reduced downtime. Aspects such as return on investment and time savings are generally present, but heavily dependent on the specific application scenario and system integration. There is potential for improvement in highlighting the added value for the end user even more clearly and making it measurable.
The MoboDrive ST targets the market for driverless industrial trucks and automated transport systems, which continues to grow in the wake of increasing automation in intralogistics. Overall, market relevance is assessed as balanced, as steering modules are already an established technology and cover only a sub-segment of the overall market. Within this segment, however, the product positions itself as a high-quality and technically advanced solution. Compared to the state of the art, it offers advantages in terms of integration and compactness, without, however, fundamentally redefining the market. For specialized applications and compact vehicle concepts, the solution can be highly relevant, whilst it is less crucial for other areas of application. Overall, this is a solid further development with a clear positioning within the existing competitive landscape.
The MoboDrive ST from Mobotic impresses as a technically mature and compactly integrated solution with a good degree of innovation and solid customer benefits, particularly for OEMs and system integrators in the field of driverless industrial trucks. Its strength lies in high-quality system integration with a positive impact on efficiency and reliability, although its market relevance remains balanced overall due to the limited application segment.
