The Jungheinrich electric forklift trucks series 4 are suitable for heavy-duty applications indoors and outdoors. They are used in the manufacturing industry, in the building materials trade and construction machinery sector, as well as in the automotive and beverage industries. Thanks to a heavy-duty hydraulic block for efficient work with massive attachments and a 33 % increase in oil flow volume, they can easily transport loads of up to 3,500 kg. Two powerful drive motors and a synchronous reluctance lifting motor ensure performance values on a par with IC trucks.
Quiet, smooth and intuitive to handle, the electric forklift trucks also impress with maximum performance and a high level of driving comfort on uneven surfaces thanks to their buffer-mounted driver’s cab. Dust and splash-proof IP 54 motors make the EFG 425 the perfect assistant for intensive outdoor work, which can be easily mastered with the lithium-ion variant of the truck and the flexible option for intermediate charging.
Options such as addedVIEW camera systems improve all-round visibility and increase safety at work. The truck’s ergonomics have been significantly improved by the enlarged legroom, the so-called floating cab to reduce human vibrations, and a workplace that has been optimized for visibility.
An impressive power pack with a versatile character. Or the perfect alternative to diesel or LPG trucks. The high-performance trucks of the EFG 4 series impress with performance values at combustion engine level. Thanks to sustainable lithium-ion technology, they score particularly well in terms of energy efficiency.
Driven by two traction motors, the EFG 425 is significantly more powerful than its predecessors and thanks to the heavy-duty hydraulic block, offers the necessary performance for intensive applications with heavy attachments. The synchronous reluctance lift motor guarantees maximum efficiency with reduced energy costs.
In addition to the narrow B-pillar design, compact lift mast profiles and a strut-free panoramic roof with the best all-round visibility, the EFG 425 has a wide range of components to increase safety and improve working comfort. Optional safety assistance systems such as the addedVIEW 360° camera system, the addedVIEW reversing camera or the fully digital addedVIEW fork camera with barcode scanning to reduce storage and retrieval errors help to master demanding applications as needed.
Sophisticated ergonomics for a high level of comfort and a customisable, noise-reduced workplace with enlarged footwell, heating, USB sockets and 12V connections in the driver compartment create a pleasant working atmosphere even under harsh conditions.
The growing demand for electric trucks, the substitution of combustion engines in many companies and increasing environmental concerns are all contributing to the fact, that the market for electric forklift trucks is constantly growing. For the material handling industry, electric forklift trucks represent a revolutionary leap forward, as they stand for sustainability and increased environmental awareness. Unlike forklifts that run on fossil fuels, electric motors do not produce any emissions during operation, except for their power consumption. Therefore they reduce the CO2-footprint.
Relevant industries for the 2.5 to 3.5 t forklift segment are manufacturing companies, the building materials trade or construction machinery sector, as well as the automotive or beverage industry. The EFG 425 has a high market relevance for customers who need electric forklifts for indoor and outdoor use, as well as applications with heavy attachments such as clamps or multiple pallet forks.
Between 30,000 and 40,000 2.5 to3.5 t electric forklift trucks are produced annually in the EU. Worldwide, however, the figure is around 120,000 to 130,000 units per year.
Powerful, spacious and adaptable. Three attributes that perfectly describe the EFG 425. Like a quick-change artist, this versatile electric forklift truck flexibly adapts to a wide range of customer needs, delivering maximum performance with maximum energy efficiency.

Jungheinrich ended the production of internal combustion engine vehicles in March 2023 and is now fully focused on electric traction. However, to achieve the performance of IC trucks in this weight class, the development of a correspondingly powerful vehicle was necessary. To this end, the EFG 4 series was developed.
The new electric forklift series derives its speed and power from two drive motors, which together are significantly more powerful than the previous single motor. The lift pump motor has also been enhanced, the hydraulic operating pressure and efficiency have been increased, and a high-performance valve block has been integrated for optimal use of heavy attachments. An optional additional oil cooler ensures virtually unlimited use under extreme conditions.
The IFOY AWARD nominated test vehicle is the EFG 425 with a full cabin. It is a drive&liftPLUS version for additional power. The forklift features a lift height of 3700 mm and is equipped with an optional person detection system.
The EFG 425 offers a spacious, functional, and extremely powerful setup. When entering, the non-slip plastic step grate catches the eye, with the height and distance of the step perfectly coordinated. The cabin exudes a calm and organized atmosphere. The clear display shows all important information, and the switches for lights and other functions are neatly placed without being intrusive.
The slim steering column, adjustable both in angle and height, the adjustable armrest and the generous storage space on the right-hand side of the cab are familiar features from previous models. The test truck´s armrest is equipped with the soloPILOT, but is of course also available with duo or multiPILOT mast controls.
The new cabin design offers more foot space and improved visibility. The B-pillars are slimmer and the windows are now glued in, so the driver does not have to look at the mounting. Furthermore, the roof window has been enlarged enormously. The panoramic roof without bars more than lives up to its name. A large sun shield and roller blind provide extra visibility and working comfort if desired.
The IFOY testers drove the EFG 425 both in the maximum driving program (Level 5) and in the more economical Mode 3. In setting 5, the forklift achieves a record-breaking lift speed, even surpassing the average of combustion engines. Compared to other tested electric forklifts, the EFG 4 series performs significantly better in all aspects.
On the somewhat more relaxed setting 3, the new EFG 425 achieves 6 % higher productivity than the average of IC trucks. In setting 5, productivity is 16 % above the performance of an average combustion forklift. With 389 pallets per 8 hours, the EFG 425 sets a new benchmark and reaches a peak in this market segment.
The curveCONTROL is perfectly adjusted and ensures that the forklift stays safely on track in fast curves. Additionally, the vehicle’s low center of gravity provides extra stability. The automatic parking brake keeps the EFG 425 securely in position, even on inclines. The braking effect of the drive motors is as expected, and the foot brake needs to be used rarely. The operation of the lift mast via the soloPILOT is familiar and intuitive, and the cabin offers more than enough space. For reversing, a grip with a horn is located on the B-pillar.
In terms of energy consumption, the new Jungheinrich EFG 425 performs better than the market average, though slightly worse than its predecessor, which was awarded for its “efficiency”. However, this is understandable given its performance. Overall, the 775 Ah/80V battery lasts a practical 8 hours and 19 minutes in Mode 5. In Mode 3, this time increases by one hour and fifteen minutes.
With the new EFG 4 series, Jungheinrich introduces a powerful series of electric forklifts with load capacities ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 tons. The machines are in every respect a clean alternative to environmentally harmful combustion engines. The EFG 425 matches and even exceeds the performance of a combustion engine vehicle. Furthermore, it is much quieter, smoother, and more pleasant to operate, offering a more spacious workplace.
