Description

The STILL EXV iGo automated high lift truck sets new standards in production supply and pre-storage areas. The robust warehouse assistant excels at storage and retrieval in wide-aisle warehouses and block storage facilities, at transfer stations in high-bay warehouses or in automatic route provisioning. As the first standardized, automated series truck from STILL, it is also particularly uncomplicated and flexible in terms of commissioning, service and handling.
With a high residual load capacity of up to 1,600 kilograms, a lift height of up to 3.8 meters and a maximum speed of 7.2 km/h, the EXV iGo is a reliable and powerful partner. It is the ideal stand-alone solution for recurring transport tasks and storage and retrieval operations. However, it is also ideal for mixed operations, where it offers the highest levels of process reliability, precision and safety. This is ensured by the multi-level safety system, which protects the operator, machine and load with safety scanners and sensors. The following safety devices are integrated as standard: safety laser scanners, optical and acoustic warning devices as well as several emergency stop switches to stop the vehicle immediately. If necessary, dual operation of the EXV iGo is uncomplicated and requires no conversion.

Innovations

When developing the STILL EXV iGo, the focus was on the current requirements of customers and the market: standardization, flexibility and scalability in warehouse logistics. As a result, the STILL EXV iGo is the first automated STILL series truck with standardized components. This enables a significant increase in production speed and service quality and is the basis for scalable automation solutions for intelligent warehouse processes. It is also the first automated high lift pallet truck that can be implemented quickly and easily thanks to modular, pre-defined project parameters – including an intuitive operating panel.
One of the things that sets the STILL EXV iGo apart from comparable products from other manufacturers is its “origin” as an industrial truck. As such, the intelligent high lift pallet truck also impresses in the automated version with its proven robust design and performance, a multi-level safety system, innovative lithium-ion technology for maximum availability and constant performance, and an operating concept that is precisely tailored to the requirements of customers.

Market relevance

While in the past automation has mainly been the focus of large companies with high levels of innovation and technology, in recent years automated processes have become increasingly relevant to companies with smaller fleets and lower levels of automation across all industries. Partly as a result of the growing shortage of skilled labour, global competition and the resulting pressure for efficiency, the demand for standardized, scalable and quickly implementable automation solutions in intralogistics is constantly growing. The STILL EXV iGo is the smart answer to this cross-industry need – highly cost-effective, quick to implement and flexible to scale.

Customer benefits

Fast commissioning, combined with a new intuitive web-based user interface, provides a smart entry into the world of automated warehouse operations, especially for companies with smaller fleets and little or no experience of automation. Companies can gain experience with automation using a familiar high lift pallet truck, run the truck in mixed operation alongside manual trucks, and switch back to manual operation at any time. This is particularly helpful in gradually introducing employees to automation, reducing uncertainty and building confidence in the new technologies.
In addition, the high service quality and fast availability thanks to industrialised production are decisive criteria for choosing the STILL EXV iGo. Here too, customers benefit from the standardized components. They enable fast service, easy access for service technicians and spare parts supply within 24 hours.

Test report

First of all: The automated EXV iGo high lift pallet truck from STILL for production supply and the pre-storage zone, which is manufactured in Chatellerault, France, is a series vehicle and not a project vehicle.

Production follows the standard series processes of the Hamburg-based premium intralogistics company. One important aspect is that the vehicle already complies with the EN ISO 3691-4 safety standard for industrial trucks. In addition, STILL’s standard service technicians are 100% qualified for this device following special iGo training − without the need for robotics experts.

STILL calculates a delivery time of around 15 weeks for its new EXV iGo mobile robot, with the project realization time starting from three months upwards. The plan is to build around 1000 of these mobile robots per year. To ensure the scalability of the product, particular emphasis was placed on intuitive operation and a user-friendly interface. The intuitive iGo easy tool was developed to create projects and display logistical flows for easy commissioning by the customer. Where iGo Systems used to provide a large master control system, iGo Easy now offers the customer a different, limited interface, the scope of which is very easy to click together and can also be changed afterwards. Expert knowledge is no longer needed to quickly install projects with limited complexity. STILL has integrated a simple interface into a complex system, allowing larger projects to pick up where smaller ones leave off. All service technicians can be trained on it.

In addition to commissioning, another focus is service, including maintenance and repair. STILL has gone to enormous lengths to make its vehicles service-ready. All vehicles have a digital twin on the servers of Kion, STILL’s parent company, and the service technician will find every spare part in his vehicle the next day.

The vehicle had to pass the so-called break-and-bumper test, in which obstacles are placed in its path. It drove straight ahead correctly and negotiated bends flawlessly.

Technical details: The EXV iGo has a high residual load capacity of up to 1600 kg, it can lift goods up to 3.8 m and can reach speeds of up to 7.2 km/h. Despite its design as a stand-alone device for repetitive transport tasks as well as storage and retrieval, the EXV iGo also impresses with process reliability and precision in mixed operation. The machine’s multi-level safety system protects man, machine and load with safety scanners, sensors, visual and acoustic warning devices, and emergency stop switches to stop the vehicle immediately if necessary. Dual operation is also easily possible. The vehicle is powered by lithium-ion batteries that can be recharged automatically via contacts.

IFOY Verdict

The fast commissioning in combination with a new, intuitive, web-based user interface makes the series-based mobile robot a smart door opener to the world of automated warehouse processes.

Automation is quick and easy, and users also benefit from the fact that the EXV iGo can be configured, maintained, and repaired via the STILL service network. The EXV iGo offers a successful and smart introduction to automated intralogistics processes, particularly for SMEs.

IFOY Innovation Check

Functionality / Type of implementation

The EXV iGO pedestrian pallet truck can be operated in both manual and automatic mode, with the automatic functions in particular being discussed below. A speed of up to 2 m/s is impressive for this class. Picking up and setting down pallets worked very precisely and quickly in the test. The product is ready for series production. One outstanding feature is the commissioning, which is automatically logged. Setting up and adapting layouts and transport orders is also very intuitive and uncomplicated. According to the manufacturer, troubleshooting has been simplified to such an extent that only training and no automation/robotics expert is required. Suitability depends on the specific application.

Novelty / Innovation

The novelty value lies in the functions for configuration, commissioning, and troubleshooting. For up to 5 vehicles in particular, the solution offers a good introduction to automation and enables users to configure and adapt it themselves. The vehicle is a new design with well-coordinated components. The overall concept is based on previous products.

Customer benefit

Automation is omnipresent and unavoidable. The customer benefit is high, as the solution can also be integrated into existing systems. If manual operation is required in addition to automatic operation, the user is guided, and the vehicle is put back on the right track. It is easy to switch between manual and automatic operation.

Market relevance

The level of automation and knowledge about the automation of logistics processes is often STILL low, especially in SMEs, but the demand is high. This is where STILL’s solution offers an excellent starting point.

IFOY verdict

The overall EXV iGO system is impressive from installation to operation and troubleshooting. The technology appears solid and well thought out.
