EXH-S 25

STILL GmbH

The EXH-S 25 is a new high performer among STILL’s low-platform trucks as regards ergonomics, safety, security and performance. With three chassis variants available, and built-in pneumatic platform cushioning, it supports users comfortably during truck loading and unloading, as well as during long transport journeys. Moreover, it scores points in daily work routine through its compact dimensions, load-carrying capacity of up to 2.5 t and a fast 14 km/h top speed. Thus the “sprinter” among low-platform trucks masters all its tasks ergonomically, safely, reliably and quickly.

Description

The EXH-S 25 is designed for fast goods turnaround, especially to load and unload goods across a ramp, e.g. for logistics users and in distribution centres. It thereby ensures that supermarket shelves are always full. Thus, in the context of the supply chain from producer to supermarket, the EXH-S is an all-round machine to ensure foodstuffs are provided quickly and safely, via a central warehouse, and fresh into the supermarket for end consumers.

The absolute focus was on customer requirements and the field of duty when designing the truck. In this respect, the specific main area of use is truck loading and unloading; a confined working space where every millimetre counts. In this respect, the EXH-S 25 is often on the move on a loading ramp, which means frequent shocks and vibration that both the truck and the driver must withstand. In addition to arduous working on a ramp, every minute counts when distributing goods. Thus, time is a deciding factor, and a truck’s performance is very relevant, especially to ensure fresh foods in a shop, for example, and to achieve high added value. A high level of truck traffic, especially in distribution centres, is another factor that is taken into consideration through appropriate truck design and assistance systems. Therefore the design concept of the EXH-S 25 focuses on efficient, intuitive, safe goods handling.

Innovations

The EXH-S 25 has pneumatic platform damping, which can also be equipped with a build-in compressor. This function is unique on the market. The selection of three platform variants is equally unique. Depending on the area of use, the options available to users include a rear entry variant specifically for truck loading and unloading, a side-entry variant for long transport distances thanks to a variety of standing positions and a backrest designed for occasional order-picking uses. The rear entry variant can also be configured with a foot sensor for maximum safety in confined work areas.

The STILL Easy Drive steering wheel with a vertical steering axis ensures that the arms always stay within the contour when steering. The steering also scores points through intuitive operation with individual height adjustment, and paddle switches at the rear of the steering wheel for even easier one-handed fork lifting and lowering.

The 14 km/h top speed makes the EXH-S 25 one of the fastest low-platform trucks on the market.

Market relevance

The EXH-S 25 is frequently used in the logistics sector, in the retail area and in the foods, drinks and tobacco industries.

The size of the potential market throughout the EMEA is more than 13,000 trucks.

Customer benefits

The EXH-S 25 is designed for safe, fast, reliable goods transport, especially in confined and arduous work areas, e.g. in loading/unloading of a truck. Depending on the area of use, three different chassis variants are available, and depending on the use, the platform variants offer users maximum possible comfort combined with protection for fast, safe goods handling.

Thanks to pneumatic platform damping with an optional built-in compressor, shocks and vibrations that must be withstood by both the truck and the driver are cushioned safely, ergonomically and gently on the back. Individual setting takes place simply and conveniently by means of a built-in compressor, a plus point not only in the ergonomics area but also in terms of individuality with many alternative drivers, e.g. in multi-shift operation. The 5-wheel chassis guarantees optimum traction and high lateral stability, even on uneven substrates. The sprung chassis design ensures that the truck does not deviate off-course, even on irregular floors.

A load capacity up to 2.5 t and a top speed of up to 14 km/h ensure fast, safe goods transhipment, e.g. of especially fresh foods in a supermarket. The paddle switches on the STILL Easy Drive steering wheel, and the intuitive operation, also ensure high manoeuvrability and make the EXH-S almost unbeatable with regard to goods handling performance. The rigid driver’s cab is a big added value in terms of safety in confined conditions when used on a ramp. Sufficient space is available for users, despite compact truck dimensions with a width of only 720 mm for high manoeuvrability. Compact truck dimensions combined with the vertical steering axis of the STILL Easy Drive steering wheel and optional foot sensor ensure that no parts of the body can stray outside the chassis contour, even during arduous, confined periods of work. Furthermore, the curve-dependent speed reduction, Curve Speed Control, and the safety light ensure increased safety, e.g. in warehouse areas with particularly large truck traffic volume.

Test report

With the new EXH-S 20/25 pallet truck series, Still is literally breaking new ground. For the first time, the pallet truck is no longer equipped with tiller steering, but with the EasyDrive steering wheel, which the manufacturer has previously used with the OPX order pickers.

Still developed the EXH-S 20/25 with 2 or 2.5 tonnes load capacity for loading and unloading trucks and for horizontal transport. Here, even longer distances can now be covered quickly, as the travel speeds have been significantly increased to 14 km/h. The EXH-S 20/25 also has a particularly strong acceleration. Due to its likewise particularly strong acceleration, the truck is ideal for fast operations. In combination with the new steering concept and improved ergonomics, the EXH-S 20/25 opens up a new dimension for fast handling.

In the test, the more comfortable handling was noticeable. The EasyDrive steering wheel of the pallet truck takes some getting used to, but the familiarisation phase is very short. All the necessary controls are on and around the steering wheel. The driving programme, energy saving and creep speed are also selected on the steering wheel. The entire steering console is stepless and easily adjustable in height.

The safe operation is particularly noticeable in that the hand remains on the steering wheel and the arms do not have to swing to the left or right, as is the case with a tiller-guided truck. This ensures that the operator remains within the contours of the vehicle. This detail is particularly important as the truck width on this STILL series is only 720 mm, well below the dimensions of a Euro pallet.

Thanks to the handy steering wheel, the operator nevertheless experiences the available working space as sufficient. The standing position is generous and the test truck is equipped with a pneumatic suspension platform that can be adjusted to the desired damping with the built-in compressor.

Thanks to its simple operation and higher driving speeds, among other things, the EXH-S 25 with lithium-ion battery not only scores top marks across the board in the test, the test team also measured the highest productivity in this class. In terms of energy consumption, the EXH-S scores above average. With the Blue-Q function activated, energy consumption drops by 15 per cent for each pallet movement, although productivity remains high.

Thanks to the fixed side walls, one experiences a high feeling of safety. The optional foot sensor ensures that the feet stay on board. The space on the platform is so large that not once during the IFOY test was the sensor activated by mistake. If the operator were to leave the platform, the pallet truck would automatically brake to a standstill in a controlled manner.

The storage options in the test vehicle with Li-ion battery are limited. The test truck is equipped with the steel version, the plastic version offers more storage space and is also available for all trucks.

IFOY Test Verdict

Still is breaking new ground with the new EXH-S 20/25 pallet truck series. The EasyDrive steering wheel, the pneumatically operated suspension, the choice of three wall configurations, remarkably high driving performance and test results are a highly innovative package. Still currently sets the benchmark in this class.
