IFOY Audit
Finalists undergo the three-stage IFOY Audit as part of the IFOY Audit, which takes place during the TEST CAMP INTRALOGISTICS. This consists of the scientific IFOY Innovation Check, the IFOY Test and the jury test.
kickTrike is a e-driven transporter for internal transport of goods and humans up to 170 kg. The kickTrike is designed to support order picking in warehouses, production supply and for transportation of employees in large facilities. The electric drive takes care for an efficient and environmental friendly use with fun.

kickTrike means flexibility:
The goal was to develop a special vehicle for the in-plant transport of adequate transport boxes beside pallets. For the employees should use it intuitively and willingly a strong focus has been set on an easy and save handling with funfactor.
Customers using the kickTrike to reduce order picking and transport times in warehouses and production areas. The front loading system, the quick start based on safe position and the strong electro drive increase the motivation of employees for tasks where they have to go long distances. Last but not least the kickTrike as a new type of vehicle is an real innovation and our customers are using this for their own PR-activities.
At first glance, the kickTrike is an outsider in the IFOY field. On closer inspection, however, it is possible to see the many interesting deployment options in the field of intralogistics. The intralogistics bike is predestined for use in maintenance activities, for example, or the (precision) distribution of components or goods. Or, as kickTrike itself says: the small transporter is “designed for people, to support dynamic process flow”.
This small vehicle can be best described as a mixture of an eBike and a Segway. After a brief familiarisation phase to become accustomed to the steering, using of the kickTrike is as easy as it is intuitive. For safety reasons, it is always advisable to keep both hands on the handlebar during travel.
There is a braking lever on either side of the handlebar – one for the front wheel brake and one for the rear brake. During the test drive, it was apparent that the right-hand brake on its own is adequate to ensure a safe journey.
The kickTrike has three drive modes: Eco, Tour and Boost. The driving speeds range from 6 km/h (in Eco mode) to 25 km/h (in Boost mode). Acceleration is adapted to the various modes and starts with slow-response in Eco mode to sportive in Boost mode.
The handlebar is steplessly height-adjustable, and the variable loading platforms permit different designs. The kickTrike therefore represents a flexible solution for a wide range of applications.
The overall capacity of the transporter is 170 kg including driver. The weight recommendation for loads to be transported is roughly 50 kg. Thanks to the low driver platform and the three-wheel design, the transporter is stable on the move.
In extremely tight spaces, the kickTrike can be moved in kick mode like a kick scooter or pushed by hand, as it weighs only 49 kg including battery. If desired, the kickTrike can also be compactly folded and stored in a minimum of space.
With its 48-volt lithium-ion battery (1.4 kWh), the kickTrike has a range of 50 km according to the manufacturer (in Boost mode and depending on the temperature).
Curves can be navigated either by turning the handlebar or bending of the knees. The overall concept makes for a fun driving experience.
The test team sees potential for improvement in the fitting of an electromotor brake ad a reverse gear. The starting speed could also have slightly more power to make it easier to master inclines.
The kickTrike is a flexible transport solution for a wide range of applications. The small transporter can be intuitively operated and adds a fun factor to the working experience.

The kickTrike is a new development in the logistics sector, and this makes it difficult to compare it with competing products and to assess its market relevance. Although the Jungheinrich Ameise 2000 is a similar machine, it has a storage platform in the rear section, which complicates order picking. The kickTrike is designed to handle relatively low loads at high speeds. This means it could replace some existing machines or open up new applications. The most important applications are order picking, express supply of such things as missing parts to the production zone, or the transport of personnel and spare parts for maintenance tasks. Due to the low transportable load (in terms of both weight and size), the kickTrike is only suitable for picking relatively small orders. This means it is not a fully fledged replacement for a horizontal order picker. In our view, the biggest market potential for the kickTrike lies in order picking in large warehouses, express delivery of letters and parcels in the city centre and in production facilities, and the transport of small items in-plant as a more efficient replacement for a manual fork truck or wheelbarrow.
KickTrike offers an alternative to bicycles for express deliveries, which would represent a major customer benefit in certain areas. The machine has a large storage platform, thereby allowing bigger loads than would be possible with a three-wheel eBike or pedelec. The storage platform in the front section additionally facilitates order picking. Although the kickTrike can – unlike an eBike or pedelec – be operated with an empty battery, this greatly restricts the achievable speed. The compact folding design makes the vehicle ideal for occasional use, as it requires little storage space.
In facilities with light and compact items as well as large storage zones, or in the case of maintenance tasks, the higher speed compared to a horizontal order picker or a pedestrian truck saves a considerable amount of time, and this can also boost employee satisfaction and motivation.
The kickTrike represents a new development in the logistics sector. The machine can be used to perform some warehouse tasks far more efficiently than is currently the case.
The test vehicle was a pre-series version produced in 2014. A more robust and practice-focused series-produced version is to be launched this year. The loading platform in the front section makes for fast and ergonomic order picking. The folding device means the machine requires minimum storage space. The fast and easy battery change option is an advantage when the kickTrike is in constant use.
