EMD 115i – the world’s shortest universal stacker in its class.
The double deck electric pedestrian stacker offers a wide range of applications. Due to its very short chassis, it is considered the shortest universal stacker in its class. In combination with a significantly minimized battery compartment, the EMD 115i is not only extremely light-weight, maneuverable and compact, but also predestined for operation in retail stores and highly confined warehouse spaces or for being mounted on cargo trucks.
The new mast design with an integrated viewing window as well as a special shape of the battery hood allows for optimum visibility of the load and surroundings, thus contributing to enhance safety.
The EMD 115i boasts the highly advanced lithium-ion technology in the form of a 17kg lightweight battery case. This facilitates short, efficient interim charging (50% charge after only 30 minutes), renders battery changes unnecessary and is maintenance-free. Moreover, an additional truck version with a shorter lift mast (ergonomic lift) is ideally suited for ergonomic order picking operations up to a height of 690 mm as well as low-intensity load transports.
In case noise level plays an important role, the optional silentDRIVE permits hassle-free use in noise-sensitive areas or time periods. And due to the sprung and cushioned support wheels – linked via the ProTracLink torsion bar – the vehicle makes for optimum driving performance.

Warehouse Truck „lowlifter“

The electric pedestrian stacker EMD 115i is a universally deployable stacker truck with support arm lift, which thanks to its very short chassis length of only 558 mm is considered the world’s shortest universal stacker. It masters numerous stacking operations up to a height of 1,520 mm and short transport routes with loads of up to 1,500 kg, especially in confined spaces such as retail stores as we as for weight-sensitive applications when loading and unloading cargo trucks.
In addition, the EMD 115i is fitted with the innovative and highly efficient lithium-ion technology to increase availability as well as operating periods, while keeping charging times to a minimum. The 40-Ah battery case ensures operation times of up to 2.5 hours and allows for boost and interim charging. In effect, the battery is 50 percent charged with a 30-minute interim charge and fully charged after only 80 minutes. Thanks to the on-board charger, easy charging at any conventional 230-V power is possible at any time.
Another unique selling point of the EMD 115i is its novel transparent mast casing and the rounded battery hood. Both of these ensure optimum visibility of the transported load. The operator has everything in plain view, so that operational interferences or accidents with persons as well as damages to the vehicle or warehouse fittings can be prevented.
Customer benefit is the forefront of the new product development. In the case of the EMD 115i, the aim was to provide the customer with an compact and high-performance, but equally productive and easy-to-handle stacker. As the shortest universal stacker in the market, the EMD 115i fulfills the requirements of customers, who want to manage numerous and flexible applications with only one truck. As such, it was to be just as productive and maneuverable in efficient double-decker operation for transporting two Euro pallets stacked on top of each other or as a high-lift truck for lightweight stacking and order picking as in low-lift operations for short trips with loads of up to 1,500 kg.
For this reason – and also by using lightweight, compact and energy-saving lithium-ion batteries – the chassis length (L2 measurement) was successfully reduced to only 558 mm to enhance maneuverability in confined spaces.
Additionally, compared to conventional lead-acid batteries, the lithium-ion technology allows for time and cost savings due to redundant battery changes, very low maintenance and a long service life.

The EMD 115i pedestrian-controlled electric stacker is a universal high lift truck with support arm lift as well as innovative and highly efficient lithium-ion technology offering numerous benefits. The Jungheinrich EMD 115i has an extremely short L2 length of just 558 mm, which makes the stacker with support arm lift the most compact machine in its class.
Moreover, the battery is far lighter than a conventional lead-acid battery, and the EMD 115i weighs just 510 kg, including the lithium-ion battery. This means it can even be used on the loading lift of a truck or lorry with two pallets each weighing 400 kilograms without any problem. This renders loading and unloading processes up to 50 percent more productive.
The support arm lift also opens up a range of versatile utilisation options. The support arm lift means that ramps are no problem for the EMD 115i, for example.
The Jungheinrich EMD 115i is equipped as standard with a PIN code access system. The IFOY Test machine was fitted with the optional card system, which allows access to the truck with any standard RFID card.
During the test, it was clear that the monomast provides an excellent view of both fork tips. The testing team was also impressed by the responsive handling, something Jungheinrich has achieved without using sensors. The five-wheel chassis also makes the truck extremely stable.
As the lithium-ion battery has a relatively neutral battery voltage, it also supplies constant power during lifting and moving. In the test, the truck even moved faster when loaded than in unloaded condition.
An integrated charger allows charging of the lithium-ion battery at any 230-volt socket outlet, and the battery is half-charged within just 30 minutes. According to Jungheinrich, a full charge takes 80 minutes.
The IFOY Test truck was a so-called silentDRIVE version. Thanks to, among other things, the threefold load rollers, the truck glides quietly across the floor. The additional sound absorbation achieves a noise reduction of around 40 percent compared to the standard EMD 115i. This makes the silentDRIVE ideal for loading and unloading activities in cities or environments where noise is undesirable or prohibited.
As a monomast stacker has not been tested to date, no data are available that would allow comparison with rival machines.
The Jungheinrich EMD 115i is a powerful, very short and agile stacker. The monomast ensures that the operator has a good view of the fork tips and the load. The truck is also quiet and easy to load. It is a true all-rounder that can be used anywhere – both on ramps and in sales rooms.

The EMD 115i from Jungheinrich AG is an electric battery-powered stacker. These types of machine are extremely widespread. The vehicle is designed for occasional use in performing a wide range of tasks. The load capacity of 1.6 t is in the mid-range for this class of vehicle. The maximum lifting height of the test machine was 1,520 mm, adequate to service the first two shelving levels. The option of double-deck loading is an advantage when loading delivery trucks. No special version is available for greater lifting heights. Market relevance is assessed as medium to high.
Lithium ion batteries have numerous benefits compared to lead batteries and increase flexibility for users. The fast charging option via a standard socket outlet with no memory effect means that the batteries can be charged during breaks without any significant wear. The vehicle is also lighter, resulting in reduced floor loads.
The test machine was more compact than its competitors, rendering it more versatile as well as suitable for use in tight spaces. The reason the design is so compact is that the EMD 115i was specifically designed for use with lithium-ion batteries and is not available as a special version in a lead battery-powered vehicle series. The battery capacity of just 40 Ah appears low compared to rival machines and may necessitate far more frequent interim charging. The vehicle comes with a low-noise drive mode, a feature that is advantageous when goods are delivered at night in residential districts, for example. The linked castor wheels in a ProTracLink bar offer improved driving characteristics, which tend to be most noticeable in an on-board stacker.
Although lithium-ion batteries are increasingly used in high lift stackers, the targeted development of a material handling truck for this kind of energy source is relatively new. It means that the vehicle is shorter, as is also the case with one of the machines from BYD. The lower weight translates into reduced floor loads, and as a result of the low lifting height, all vehicles in this class boast relatively good forward visibility – which is further improved by the transparent mast casing. The EMD 115i does not possess one single outstanding innovation but it does feature multiple smaller improvements that are certainly of relevance for the user.
The Jungheinrich EMD 115i is a new development designed specifically for the use of lithium-ion technology. The functions are well implemented and provide good ergonomic support for the operator.
