This year there was a full package of improvements for the RX 20 series which was summarised under the designation RX 20 Facelift.
The main improvement affected the turnover performance, ergonomics and handling. With the new RX 20 Facelift, STILL offers customised products for an enormous range of customer requirements in internal logistics worldwide. The possible applications for indoor and outdoor utilisation of the series are manifold. They include warehouses for beverages, fruit and vegetables in food industry and trade, as well as printers, goods-in and goods-out departments of forwarders just as multi-shift operation in the automotive industry, for example, to provide materials to production lines.
Changing the battery over the side is easy and fast and increases availability of the truck especially in multi-shift operation.
The workspace for the driver offers outstanding visibility for more safety and high turnover performance.
The RX 20 series is ideal for companies that need an all-round truck for indoor and outdoor use alike in combination with a need for high turnover capacities as well as good gradeabilty characteristics on ramps.
Discharge indicator:
The discharge indicator allows an exact estimate of the remaining time of service which is calculated on the current consumption and the charging level of the battery. This feature extents the function of the display and control unit by two features. One is an indication of the estimated residual driving time in minutes. This supports the driver to change or recharge the battery at the point in time best fitting into the work process. This will reduce costs of the truck for the operating company. The average consumption of the last 30 minutes is also indicated together with a trend indicator. This way the driver can see whether his current way of driving is above or below the average.
Sprint mode:
The flow of materials, for example in contract logistics, often sees peak times in which maximum turnover capacity needs to be made available. The sprint mode is activated by the driver pressing a button. The maximum driving speed can be temporarily increased by 25% to 20km/h.
Joystick 4Plus:
The new Joystick 4Plus presents an innovative hydraulic control for high turnover performance and comfortable operation.
Characteristics:
The RX 20 series was designed for a very broad range of applications.
The improvements of the series mainly focussed on enhancing its efficiency. This affects turnover performance, ergonomics and handling. Especially the new Joystick 4Plus improves the workspace for the driver.
The RX 20 series has proven its operational capability and dependability over many years in service. It is the series with the highest volume in the whole RX family. Since its launch in 2005, over 50 000 units of the RX 20 series with load capacities up to 2 tons have been built.
The new RX 20 trucks can be even better adapted to the requirements of the users and they can be used in an even broader range of applications. This increases work efficiency and reduces the costs per pallet moved. Many features of the new RX 20 also improve the workspace for the driver.

Still presented its new RX 20 series of three and four-wheel electric forklift trucks with load capacities from 1.4 to 2 tons in the summer of 2014. Like that of its predecessors, the design of the vehicles is modern and unmistakeable. Under the hood, however, everything has changed.
The new RX 20 is equipped with maintenance-free 48 V AC technology. Thanks to the completely new drive axle, the maximum driving speed has been increased from 16 km/h to 20 km/h. This means the electric truck can even hold its own with the fastest combustion-engined forklifts. The higher top speed also ensures higher throughput efficiency during transport over long distances or in peak periods calling for maximum performance. At the same time, this higher performance also means higher energy consumption.
In order to boost performance capability in tasks requiring frequent lifting and lowering, Still has fitted the new series with the high-powered hydraulic pumps from the RX 60 series. The new pump increases maximum lifting and lowering speed by around 16 percent; in real terms, by up to 0.44 m/s with a load of 2 tons.
All the performance-boosting measures in the RX 20 series are combined in a new mode: the “sprint” mode. This driving profile combines the various driving programs and permits higher loading performance at the push of a button. The maximum improvement recorded in the IFOY test was 4.5 percent.
Thanks to the higher efficiency of the inverter developed by Still and produced in the company’s Hamburg plant, the new RX 20 with sprint mode and Blue-Q energy efficiency programme does not use any more energy than its predecessor despite the increased performance. Depending on workload and at the mere press of a button, Blue-Q paves the way for energy savings of up to 17 percent in sprint mode.
A new display allows the driver to see the current energy consumption as well as the remaining driving and working times until the next battery charge – all in real time.
The RX 20 from Still combines intelligent technology with proven design. Visibility through the two-segment mast of the test truck was excellent. The machine is fast and reaches top speeds in “sprint” mode. However, it’s worth taking a closer look to determine if the sprint mode is really necessary, as the benefit in terms of speed is only truly noticeable on long, straight runs. Blue-Q offers significant potential for savings, particularly in sprint mode.

The implementation of the “sprint” mode underlines the targeted further development of this vehicle class at Still towards performance maximisation of a type that can be systematically activated by the driver as and when needed. At the same time, a new display has been introduced to improve operational safety and shows not only the residual energy of the battery but also the energy consumption in the current driving mode and based on the current driving style. These features ensure timely battery change while also enabling the driver to document the effects of his driving style, thereby putting him in a position to optimise driving style to minimise energy consumption.
In addition, Still also offers a new operating lever for the RX 20 that combines multiple hydraulic functions. This lever can be easily fitted in place of the conventional control unit.
All in all, the RX 20 is a well-designed machine with numerous minor innovations that will doubtless also become standard in many other trucks in this vehicle segment in years to come.
