Warehouse Truck „highlifter“

The new generation of STILL FM-X reach trucks is designed to raise productivity. It guarantees an efficient warehouse. The FM-X is available with rated load capacities of 1 to 2.5 tons. It combines compact dimensions with a maximum lift height of 13 metres at a residual load capacity of 1000 kg.
The FM-X accelerates powerfully to high top speeds of 14 km/h combining these with high lift speeds of up to 0.70 m/s. Despite this, the energy consumption compared to its predecessor was lowered by 20 per cent. Additional energy saving is possible by the energy efficiency mode Blue¬Q.
Relaxed, comfortable and safe work throughout a whole shift is guaranteed by the holistic ergonomic cabin concept. Numerous equipment versions allow to adapt the truck perfectly to individual customer requirements. For example, the FM-X can be fitted with Superelastic tyres for outdoor operation. The truck can also be operated at extreme conditions – thanks to several cabin versions (cold store, wind protection, weather protection).
Effective work requires to swiftly position the reach truck in front of the rack. To do this, visibility through the mast needs to be as good as possible. In order to ensure this, the visibility through the mast of the new FM-X was substantially improved.
Amongst others, this is achieved by optimising the installation of the hydraulic pipes, positioning the free lift cylinder off-centre and a slim fork carriage.
In order to use a reach truck flexibly it should be as compact as it can and have a high residual capacity. This is why the residual capacity of the FM¬X was increased by an average of 16 per cent compared to the predecessor model.
Lifting of loads and the reach movements when storing cause strong mast swinging, especially at large lift heights. To be able to stack the goods safely in the rack, the operator needs to wait for the swinging to fade away. This waiting time reduces turnover performance. To keep performance high, the time for the swinging to fade away should be as short as possible or it should be avoided altogether.
Thanks to the new active load stabilisation the swinging of the mast is reduced to a minimum. This is achieved by careful counter movements of the mast. The result are much faster storage and retrieval processes.
Reducing the mast swinging when storing materials into the rack. The newly developed feature reduces the swinging movement to a minimum.
The visibility through the mast was improved by placing the central cylinder off-centre, optimising the layout of the hydraulic pipes and designing a slim fork carriage.
Increasing the residual capacity and the maximum lift height. Compared to the predecessor the average residual capacity was increased by 16 per cent. Based on its high residual capacity, the FM-X lifts up to 1000 kg to a height of 13 metres.
Especially at high lift heights, swinging of the mast is a nuisance for the driver and the operator, because as long as the swinging of the mast fades away, loads cannot be picked up or destacked. This reduces possible productivity for the user. With the active load stabilisation the respective waiting time can be reduced by as much as 80 per cent. An automatic counterbalancing pulse quickly and effectively reduces the swinging movement of the mast, especially at large heights. By this, the new and innovative module allows efficient and safe load handling at the rack.
Better visibility of the load helps when positioning the truck in front of the rack and leads to fast and safe movement of materials.
Thanks to the higher torsion resistance of the mast, the new FM-X now easily lifts loads of up to 1000 kg up to highs of 13 metres allowing the operator to make maximum use of space in the warehouse.

In the spring of 2014, STILL introduced a completely new series of reach trucks with the FM-X, thereby setting the bar higher in two ways. The truck not only has numerous innovative features like active load stabilisation (ALS) but also a comprehensive range of ergonomic enhancements.
ALS automatically reduces mast oscillations and fluctuations that always occur when handling loads at large heights and high speeds. This system reduces the waiting time for the driver by up to 80 percent and therefore ensures not only productive but also safe task performance.
The lifting mechanism of the FM-X has improved rigidity. Together with the newly developed mast, this gives the truck an unusually high residual load capacity. The reach truck effortlessly lifts loads up to 1,000 kg to a maximum height of 13 metres.
A 48-Volt AC engine ensures powerful acceleration, combined with a maximum driving speed of 14 km/h and a lifting speed of up to 0.50 m/s. The wide choice of batteries with capacities from 360 Ah to 930 Ah means that the right battery is always available for the application in question. The test truck was fitted with a 620 Ah/48 V battery.
Entry to and exit from the reach truck is lower and wider than in the predecessor model, permitting fast and safe access to the cabin. Seen the from the cabin, exiting would be more comfortable if the steps were more easily visible. The new, comprehensive ergonomic concept includes a workplace that can be fully adjusted to suit the driver. Both the seat and the foot plate are proportionally adjustable. The position of the foot plate can be stored via an electric “quick set” function, and the plate moves back to the desired position at the push of a button. In addition, the FM-X has an adjustable steering column.
Still is the only manufacturer offering a mast side-shift feature. The asymmetrically positioned free lift cylinder, the visibility-optimised protective roof, and the tilting seat ensure a good view of the load and the working area in all conditions.
The fully electric 360° steering makes for easy truck manoeuvring, even with heavy loads. When driving straight ahead, the steering wheel is always in the 9 o’clock position, ensuring maximum safety even at high speeds.
Thanks to the electro-hydraulic valves, all hydraulic functions can be conveniently executed via fingertip control or joystick while work is being performed. The test truck was equipped with a joystick. All relevant information such as speed, driving mode, battery status, and now also the weight of the load are easily legible on the display.
The productivity of the Still FM-X is well above average, making it one of the top performers in the segment of reach trucks. Consumption per 100 pallets is average. Driving characteristics are good and predictable. The exit steps could be easier to see.

In the FM-X model, Still has succeeded in compensating for the oscillations of the mast that occur during lifting or driving motion by implementing an active counteraction concept via the traversing cylinder of the reach mast. This innovative control feature, based on precise modelling of vehicle behaviour and deduction of the deformation in the lifting mast from elementary parameters, ensures compensation of mast oscillations due to initiated reaching movements of the mast in the horizontal plane. This not only improves storage and removal processes but also reduces the strain on the operator when handling loads at large lifting heights. Other minor improvements include through-visibility past the mast and increased load capacity.
All in all, the Still FM-X is a well-designed vehicle with multiple minor improvements and a technological innovation, namely the active load stabilisation feature. The new and easy-to-use compartment height approach feature is also an important innovation in terms of ease of operation.
