Carreras Group, an international logistics company, implemented Toyota I_Site in order to reduce damage costs and optimise its material handling operations. Today, Toyota I_Site is implemented in most of its facilities in Spain and Portugal.
Toyota I_Site is an intelligent fleet management solution combining wireless technology with Toyota expert support. The system helps Carreras Group to have a better understanding of the entire fleet use via a user-friendly web portal, to which fleet managers can easily connect at any given moment. Keeping an eye on the trucks’ data helps them to make informed decisions that will further lead to decreasing costs and improving productivity, health, safety and the environment.
The benefits of choosing this solution are clear: during 2011 Carreras’s productivity raised by 10% and the total cost for the machines and maintenance has been cut off by approximately 60%. Carreras could also optimise its working routines and measure the driving time with Toyota I_Site by moving/creating new pallet picking points inside its warehouse.
Carreras also recorded a major increase in safety with a significant reduction in shocks and accidents. Toyota I_Site uses a PIN code system, leaving only authorised drivers to get on board the truck. In the event of an impact or shock, the truck can be locked out and placed into creep speed. Managing the fleet with the Toyota I_Site supported the Carreras Group in establishing better working conditions and creating a “top driver” ranking system to set the good example and generate positive competition.
Toyota I_Site also brought Carreras optimisation of machine and driver utilisation, better forklift and battery usage, preserving their quality and leading to a longer lifespan. Improved cost-efficiency has been achieved in areas that were previously difficult to control, such as battery changing. As such, Toyota I_Site is also a solution for more sustainable material handling processes.
