The Swiss company Streng Plastic AG has been manufacturing plastic piping systems for 60 years. To increase its storage capacity, a high bay warehouse with space for approx. 4,000 pallets was built. Jungheinrich was chosen as the general contractor as early as the initial planning phase. After an analysis of requirements and material flow, the choice was made for a very narrow aisle (VNA) warehouse with Warehouse Navigation and Jungheinrich WMS. Jungheinrich supplied the entire racking systems, forklift trucks, the Jungheinrich WMS, radio data transmission and various services besides the project management.
The Jungheinrich WMS enables secure, transparent and efficient warehouse management. The system supports all material flow processes, taking into account the warehouse layout, forklift trucks and goods, and communicates with the customer’s own ERP system for this purpose. Jungheinrich supplied the appropriate radio data transmission components and services for this. The Warehouse Navigation optimises material flow in the narrow-aisle warehouse of more than ten meters in height. Using the unrivalled “Jungheinrich Logistics Interface” makes it possible to connect VNA forklift trucks to any warehouse management system. The Jungheinrich WMS uses this middleware to send transport orders directly to the VNA trucks. The forklift truck operator just hits the accelerator. Once the destination has been reached, this is confirmed directly in real time to the Jungheinrich WMS.
The Jungheinrich logistics system guarantees Streng Plastic AG a reliable and efficient material flow. Warehouse Navigation reduces wrong put-aways and retrievals to 0%. Compared to manual operation, Warehouse Navigation achieves an increase in efficiency of 25%. The investment in Warehouse Navigation has paid off within few months in case of Swiss personnel and operating costs. The structure is modular and Jungheinrich’s After Sales Service guarantees smooth functioning for years to come.
