Description

The Traigo 80 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0t electric counterbalanced trucks have been designed for heavy duty operations. They are built with the world’s unique Toyota System of Active Stability, durable chassis, ergonomic operator compartment and great overall visibility. Robust, compact and versatile, they are convenient for both the occasional user and intense operations. The range includes a 5.0t model rated at 600 mm load centre – offering increased residual capacities and ideal for lifting longer loads or working with heavy attachments. The maintenance-free Toyota AC motors and the latest generation of controllers can increase vertical and horizontal speed by up to 20%. The trucks offer a range of battery capacities of up to 775Ah with fast charging solutions. For multiple-shift operations, the trucks offer various battery exchange methods for different customer needs. The Traigo 80 4.0-5.0t has a compact mast design, optimised hydraulic layout and improved controller cooling system, resulting in up to 22% more energy efficiency than the previous model and 22% longer operational time between battery recharge/exchange. The SAS Rear Stabiliser for lateral stability, SAS Mast Control for safe handling of load at height, SAS Steering Synchroniser aligning steering wheel and rear drive wheels protect operator and load when driving, turning and lifting. The trucks feature a comfortable driver compartment adaptable to the operator’s preferences and spacious modern cabins for outdoor work.

Innovations

The customers benefit from increased productivity with the new 80-volt trucks: the Traigo 80 4.0-5.0t raises the driving speed (up to 18 km/h), the lift speed and the acceleration. It also runs up to 20% longer than its predecessor. The compact design makes these forklifts easily manoeuvrable in narrow aisles.
For multiple shift operations requiring battery change, the Traigo 80 4.0-5.0t offers a choice of battery management solutions: the battery can be lifted out with a crane as a standard. For sideways battery change we offer built-in sliders for electric battery extraction or fork pockets under the battery.
The multi-function display built into the dashboard is another innovative feature. The key information such as battery discharge, steering wheel position, and drive speed is available at a glance. All switches to activate lights, wipers are integrated in the same display for quick access.
The Traigo 80 4.0-5.0t is easy to tailor according to the most specific needs and driver preferences. It is available with different pedal layouts and material handling controls. It also has an optional integrated fleet management system providing essential information such as truck status, battery management, shock intensity, that allow for an advanced fleet control.

Market relevance

The new Traigo 80 4.0-5.0t blends high performance with safety. It is smooth, accurate and fast in applications, offering high drive and lift speeds, always in a safe manner. It relies on features such as the unique Toyota SAS with fork levelling for quicker horizontal positioning of the forks, rear stabiliser for extra stability and other mast functions that increase the productivity level. It can be fit with optional features such as speed and acceleration control with load at height, load weight indicator and height selector.
The truck is designed to ease serviceability and to be more energy efficient and environmentally conscious. The Traigo 80 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0t models come with maintenance-free motors as standard, and controllers, wet disc brakes and long life time eco-friendly LED lights as an option. All key components can be easily accessed, enabling fast service. The longer operating time eliminates the need for a second battery in most applications. The trucks are 99% recoverable, contributing to lower environmental impact.
The trucks aim to improve the driveability and durability and be a long-lasting product for all-round users. They have a solid all-metal design and all the comfort leading to high performance: large step size, cabin options for all weather conditions, adjustable armrest and intuitive minilevers, steering synchroniser for more ergonomic driving position, speed reduction when cornering for increased truck control, to name but few features.

Customer benefits

The benefits of working with the Traigo 80 4.0-5.0t have been maximised: these trucks offer longer operating time, longer service intervals and various energy management solutions. The 4.0 to 5.0t trucks bring higher productivity thanks to improved driving speed of up to 18km/h, stronger acceleration and quicker lifting resulting in 15% more pallet movement compared to their predecessors. The 5.0t model is ideal for lifting longer loads or working with heavy attachments.
Thanks to the operator compartment with easy on-and-off and comfortable driving position, the operator is less fatigued during long working hours. When driving backwards frequently, the driver can even opt for a swivel seat that swivels right and provides a more ergonomic driving position that reduces back strain.
The all-round visibility forwards, backwards, upwards greatly increase the level of safety while manoeuvring. This is also secured thanks to the Toyota System of Active Stability which reduces the risk of tip over and goods damage and makes the horizontal positioning of the forks quicker and safer.
Customers can draw benefits from the higher energy efficiency and fast charging possibilities. These new 4.0-5.0t models need 22% less energy for the same level of productivity. With the Traigo 80 trucks for heavy duty operations, most applications can be carried out without the need for battery change, reducing the time, cost and effort typically requested for charging or changing the battery.

Test report

The Traigo 80 series from Toyota Material Handling was extended upward in the autumn of 2014. The trucks in the series are now also available with load capacities of 4, 4.5 and 5 tons. Although both the engines and the chassis have been optimised, the concept is still similar to that of the smaller forklifts.

The Traigo 80 has a sturdy and solid look, but the design is not particularly progressive. Whether battery cover, side panels or steps, nearly all the elements are made of solid steel. The plastic components like the dashboard are made of impact-proof material and are extremely robust. Extra ventilation slits are no longer necessary as the optimised chassis and engine design result in reduced heat build-up.

The floor plate is extremely spacious, even it this does not appear to be the case at first sight. The driver seat is sufficiently roomy, also thanks to the rounded battery cover. In fact, all the edges in the entry zone and around the battery compartment are nicely rounded. In the test truck, only the tilt angle of the steering column was adjustable but not the height. A memory lever ensures that the steering column reverts to the desired position after the battery cover has been opened.

The four levers make for easy operation of the Traigo 80-45. The automatic levelling of the forks via the SAS system is extremely convenient. The sober design and large openings in the protective roof provide excellent visibility of the working area at greater heights.

The IFOY test confirmed that, thanks to further development and optimisation measures, energy efficiency is 22 percent higher than the predecessor model from the 7FBMF series; productivity is also improved.

The forklift in the test was equipped with the double-pedal system. It drives and lifts slightly more quietly than its competitors with only marginal sacrifices in performance. In terms of energy consumption and productivity, the Traigo 80 recorded almost the same values that were measured as average for its class of truck.

What is unique, however, is the option of entering and exiting the truck on the right-hand side. This can prove particularly advantageous in narrow spaces as well as in emergencies. The test truck was equipped with a sideways battery change system (optional). Toyota has chosen detachable panels instead of a battery compartment door. The slightly greater timeload when opening the battery compartment presented no problem in practice. In the Toyota, battery change is possible from both the side and the top.

Thanks to the steering synchroniser, the steering wheel is always in the ideal position when driving straight ahead to ensure safety of operation. This is one of the SAS features (System for Active Stability) that Toyota has installed on all forklifts for some time now. Other SAS features include rear axle locking in fast bends, automatic tilt angle and speed limitation with raised forks, and automatic horizontal positioning of forks during tilting. All in all, the SAS system makes for more predictable handling of the Traigo 80 and almost always guarantees a high level of safety and productivity.

IFOY test verdict

The Toyota Traigo 80 is a robust and solidly designed machine. The forklift is convenient to drive and operate, due to, among other things, the four control levers. The SAS system for automatic fork levelling is particularly driver-friendly. Energy efficiency is 22 percent better than the predecessor model. In terms of productivity and energy consumption, the Traigo 80 is average for its class.
