Warehouse Truck „highlifter“

The ETV 216i with integrated lithium-ion power is the ideal partner for highly effective and safe stacking and retrieval of goods as well as for transporting pallets during order picking. Lift heights of up to 10,700 mm and an extremely compact design offer unrivalled agility in narrow rack aisles. The integrated lithium-ion battery, which was newly constructed along with the truck itself, is exceptionally compact. The user thus benefits from whole new levels of freedom. Thanks to rapid lifting and reaching, a much greater number of pallets can be turned over per hour than with conventional trucks. At the same time, the truck`s rapid and intermediate charge capability ensures utmost flexibility, even in multi-shift operation. Users also enjoy the benefits of a perfect workplace: The operator position impresses with its perfect all-round visibility, while all control elements and accessory parts are within easy reach. Moreover, the ETV 216i features practical storage facilities for paper, working materials and drink bottles.
The ETV 216i is not only the world’s first lithium-ion reach truck, but also the first large electric truck featuring integrated lithium-ion technology as standard. Thanks to the inclusion of the lithium-ion battery as an integral part of the truck, our customers benefit from the many advantages offered by this highly efficient battery technology, including rapid and intermediate charge capability with extremely short charging times and longer service life without the need for maintenance. The omission of the battery tray also enables a revolutionary new truck design, which makes the ETV 216i more agile, ergonomic and safer than conventional reach trucks. Despite its extremely compact design, the truck features a significantly larger operator workstation with raised seating position, greater legroom, numerous storage facilities and an unrestricted view of the load and support arms. Moreover, the truck’s centre of gravity has been optimised to ensure even greater residual capacity. Last but not least, the ETV 216i delivers increased throughput performance thanks to the perfect interplay between the truck and battery as well as the 23 percent higher lift speed.
Reach trucks are used for in-house warehouse operations in virtually all sectors, such as in logistics and freight handling, retail, metalworking and the timber industry. With businesses facing ever increasing logistical demands, the market introduction of a reach truck featuring highly efficient lithium-ion technology as standard represents a very important development, especially for medium-sized, innovation-embracing companies that wish to tackle these new challenges with the aid of ground-breaking product solutions. Particularly in the case of warehouses with narrow aisle widths and high turnover requirements, which in some cases necessitates multi-shift operation, the ETV 216i – as the world’s first lithium-ion reach truck – is ideal for loading and unloading HGVs, for transporting goods over long distances as well as for efficient stacking and retrieval of goods up to lift heights of 10,700 mm. The ETV 216i can turn over up to 5 percent more pallets per hour than a truck with lithium-ion replacement.
Thanks to its compact design and outstanding lift speed, the Jungheinrich ETV 216i delivers a massive boost to your warehouse performance. The ETV 216i is the latest flagship of the Jungheinrich reach truck series. The truck has been completely redesigned around the brands own lithium-ion battery and sets new standards in terms of space, visibility and performance.
At the heart of the system is the lithium-ion battery which Jungheinrich puts together itself. This technology is less dominant in shape than a conventional lead-acid battery and Jungheinrich makes optimum use of that. The new energy source is not a rectangular block, but has an L-shape. The vertical part of the L is under the seat, the lower side is under the footplate. The whole battery is also more compact, which gives a positive domino effect to many facets of the truck.
To maximize the benefits of the new lithium-ion battery, the footplate is slightly raised. This offers space for a real, practical on and off step. The step is clearly visible, has a cleverly rounded shape and is sufficiently deep. The truck also has a variety of storage compartments and trays. Together with optional features such as the panorama roof and various assistant systems, they make working on the new ETV 216i extra fun, easy and efficient.
Thanks to the new battery configuration, Jungheinrich saves a lot of space. This is entirely for the benefit of the cabin, which is more spacious than ever. The gain is not only noticeable in the extra footroom, but especially on the seat. The narrow reach truck seat has been replaced by a full-fledged forklift seat, including a fully adjustable armrest. This feathers along with the seat and therefore continuously offers the best support. Thanks to the concealed battery, the cabin on the mast side could also remain low. This gives the driver a full view of the wheel arms and the working environment.
Thanks to the electric steering system, the ETV 216i can be guided very solidly and the truck doesn’t get into trouble, even if cornering fast. The reach truck even has unprecedented stability thanks to the extra front weight, which compensates for the lower weight of the lithium-ion battery and gives the truck a better weight distribution and a very low centre of gravity. The additional front weight also increases the residual load capacity.
During the IFOY Test Days it is obvious that the lifting speeds both with and without load, with respectively 65 and 86 cm/s, are considerably higher than before. The profit is due to the higher yield of the lift pump. Together with the increased acceleration and travel speed, the ETV 216i reacts very directly and predictably to all commands.
The li-ion technology makes it possible to actually reuse almost all recovered energy during braking. As a result, the service life is noticeably longer. The measurements show that the ETV 216i in P3 (maximum driving mode) has a practical operating time of six hours. At P1 the practical application time is 7:50 hours. Add to this the fact that the lithium-ion battery and the very accessible battery plug allow for trouble-free interim charging, and the truck can easily reach a full three-shift operation with playful ease.
IFOY test verdict
With the ETV 216i, Jungheinrich brings an innovative and high-performance reach truck. The completely new design around the cleverly concealed lithium-ion battery offers unprecedented visibility and working space. The truck is highly predictable in operation and effortlessly achieves high performance in terms of both productivity and energy consumption. Jungheinrich has once again set the benchmark in the reach truck segment with the ETV216i.

Market Relevance
Reach trucks are an essential part of warehouse operations for the storage and retrieval of goods. The performance data as well as the safe use of the equipment are decisive for the achievable turnover per time. A further development of reach trucks has a significant market relevance, as such equipment is used across many industries. Furthermore, the efficiency of all logistical processes is becoming increasingly important, with the ETV 216i making a contribution.
Customer Benefit
For the direct benefit of the customer the following essential aspects are seen. These are related to the use of lithium-ion technology. Smaller battery dimensions allow a significant improvement in the field of vision and ergonomics (more space and comfort) for the operator of the ETV 216i. This increases operational safety. An improved overview during the driving movement allows safe and thus more agile driving. Furthermore, an increase in the performance data was made possible, whereby the increase in the lifting speed is to be emphasised. Short individual loading cycles are possible. This means that multi-shift operation can be covered if the appropriate conditions are created. For example, charging stations should be available at the points where the operator takes breaks. The maximum customer benefit may also be related to an adjustment of the operator’s behaviour. It is to be expected that the implemented solution will in any case increase the handling performance of the customer.
Degree of Novelty
The ETV 216i was the first to use an individually manufactured lithium-ion battery, which allows a significant change in the device itself due to its constructive integration. The development of the ETV 216i therefore goes beyond a simple battery change. Lithium-ion batteries are lighter and smaller, so that the device could be rethought in terms of dimension and centre of gravity and thus dynamic stability. The resulting functional counterweight and a lighter upper cabin construction improve stability, especially when the load capacity is used at high lifting heights.
Functionality / Type of Implementation
The implementation can be classified as exemplary. Not only the battery was individually adapted to the construction, but also the now necessary larger counterweight. It was integrated into the ETV 216i as a load-bearing assembly. The result is a compact solution with improved features in terms of ergonomics, performance and safety.
