Warehouse Truck „highlifter“

Reach trucks are the “workhorses” of most high-throughput distribution centres and warehouses and are mainly used for pallet transport, storage and retrieval, as well as for order picking replenishment. They are often the most expensive vehicles in a forklift truck fleet. In big fleet deals, reach trucks are seen as “flagship” products, and often have a “pull-through effect” by driving the sales of other vehicles.
The ESR 1000 Series is a full range of electric, side-sit reach trucks that achieve new levels of productivity, comfort, safety and robustness for the most demanding warehouses and distribution centers. Numerous industry-first innovations give operators an extra advantage for nearly every task.
Crown’s new reach truck series brings together the strength, power and durability, for which Crown products have always been recognised, with future-proof forklift technology, a variety of productivity- and safety-enhancing innovations and full truck connectivity. The ESR 1000 Series follows Crown’s human-centric design approach to optimise operator comfort and protection which enable them to achieve maximum efficiency in their daily work.
The ESR 1000 Series with the future-proof Gena operating system offers a data-rich, personalised and interactive user experience. Benefits extend from operators to service engineers to management. Full connectivity also enables or simplifies the implementation of new technologies.
The patented Xpress Lower technology is a clear USP and, together with the efficiency-enhancing assistance systems integrated into the Gena operating system, enables significant productivity gains. This might allow the loading of a complete additional semi-trailer to be achieved in a single shift or the same throughput with fewer forklifts.
The intuitive and personalisable Gena user experience and the wide range of languages available make it easy to onboard new employees, increase their motivation and lead to high employee loyalty.
The wholesale, retail, logistics and manufacturing industries in particular benefit from the advantages of the new ESR 1000 Series. And also against the background of the discussion about the energy source of the future, these forklifts offer full flexibility, because the change between lithium-ion and lead-acid batteries is possible at any time without considerable effort.
The market potential for reach trucks in EMEA in 2018 was around 33,000 units, which further illustrates the relevance of this innovation.

The Crown ESR 1000 reach truck series offers trucks with load capacities from 1,400 to 2,000 kg and lift heights up to 13,560 mm. The IFOY test truck has a capacity of 1,600 kg and lifting height of 6,840 mm. It is equipped with a 48V/468Ah battery. The optional Xpress Lower technology doubles lowering speed to improve cycle times and increase productivity while regenerative lowering reduces energy consumption with up to eleven percent.
According to Crown the productivity gain can reach up to 21 percent. However, the function benefits most when lowering from higher working heights. When goods are stored a lot to and from those heights, the allocation in the warehouse certainly deserves more attention according to the test team. In that case, a considerable profit can already be made by storing the pallets differently. In the tests the Xpress Lower technology proves to be 50 percent faster compared to Crown’s safety lowering speed. Compared to bench mark trucks in the market the lowering speed is 25 percent faster.
The measured gain in regeneration when lowering is really making sense. When handling a one ton load with the twelve meter mast the test team noted an energy regain of 12,5 percent. Also optional are the Auto Height Select feature and the Tilt Position Assist. Auto Height Select automatically stops the forks at programmed rack heights to avoid product, rack and truck damage while improving throughput. The system works very pleasantly and is the most user-friendly the test team has seen so far. The Tilt Position Assist option compensates for mast and carriage deflection and automatically levels forks relative to the ground for more precise positioning.
Built-in connectivity provided by the modern Gena operating system makes vital performance data easy to see, understand and use, with a seven-inch intuitive colour touchscreen and widgets designed to convey information at a glance. The system is programmable in 25 different languages with informative widgets. Service engineers benefit from detailed event histories for all reach truck functions. They can use the truck display for enhanced diagnostics, including step-by-step troubleshooting, setup and calibration. This will save the end user time and money. Ergonomics and personalisation play a vital role in improving productivity. The IFOY test truck offers adjustability all around: from suspension seat height/weight to forward/reverse seat position.
Seat tilt and lumbar support are also adjustable, as are steering tiller height and horizontal position. The D4 Armrest is adjustable as well. The unique design and adaptability result in easy use and ergonomic comfort. The test truck is equipped with fingertip levers. The truck responds predictably to the commands and the offset mast gives the operator a better view of the load wheel, the fork and the pallet. The optional panoramic glass maximises visibility and provides a superior debris shield.
The intelligent Optimised Cornering Speed system, built into all ESR Series trucks, recognises whether the operator is driving into or out of a curve, analysing steer tyre angle, driving direction and steering direction, and automatically adjusts speed and acceleration for maximum safety and performance. Energy savings and significant runtime advantages are achieved through regenerative braking – provided by e-GEN Braking – and regenerative lowering – included with the Xpress Lower feature.
With the ESR1000, Crown brings a truck that combines high productivity with very low energy consumption. The truck is predictable and offers a high level of safety. The intuitive display, combined with the assistant systems, gives the operator every opportunity to make work easier.

As a reach truck, the ESR 1000 belongs to a category of warehouse trucks that are used for central work tasks in many warehouses with dense arrangement of the racks. These include, on the one hand, the basic storage and retrieval operations from the racks and, on the other, the staging operations at the distributed picking and transfer positions. Users of the trucks are both logistics service providers and industrial companies with their supply and distribution warehouses. The truck has a whole range of new features that give it a competitive advantage in an already well-established market segment.
The benefits of the features of the product result from the increase in productivity. The higher lowering speed of the load handling attachment shortens the cycle time of individual processes, the energy recovery during lowering extends the battery life through energy recovery. The individual contributions to simplified operation of the truck indirectly lead to a better working environment for the operator. Added to this are the assistance functions for monitoring compliance with safety rules, which inform the user of the truck in an unobtrusive manner.
Especially for reach trucks, an increased lowering speed of the load handling device has not been offered on the market so far. In contrast to the recuperation of braking energy during horizontal travel, energy recuperation during lowering has also not yet been realised in the industrial truck sector. The simplifications for the operability of the truck and the assistance functions are known from other fields of technology, but have not yet been implemented so consistently for industrial trucks.
The aforementioned innovations have been implemented in a very professional manner. This applies on the one hand to the very easy to operate function of the lift and in particular the function for rapid lowering of the load handling device. This includes the sensitive control and the very helpful safety functions for overload prevention. The good integration of the extensive displays for the individual functions on the touch display, which can be individually configured with widgets, must also be emphasised. Added to this are the safety queries supported by software and dialogues and the sensor-based checking of compliance with safety rules. These signal to the vehicle user without obtrusiveness but with easy-to-understand tones whether their own behaviour is safety-compliant and thus contributes to the guiding principle of safe operation. All in all, the design and finish of the truck are also very professional and convey a high level of quality of the components and materials.
