inventAIRy X is a DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise drone that operates together with an AGV. Equipped with the innovative doks. technology and software, 1D and 2D sensors and a 12-megapixel camera, inventAIRy X levitates completely autonomous through the pallet rack aisles, capturing not only stock data, but also other parameters such as storage temperature, packaging quality and possible damages. The user can easily retrieve the collected data on the associated handheld. With the inventAIRy X software, all information is available on a single screen. This allows the user to monitor incoming and outgoing goods, view capacity information, control inventAIRy X drones, and review the latest inventory information. This software is both evidence preservation and prospective planning tool. The solution can be used in all pallet racking systems and allows intregration to already exitisting warehouse structures with minimal effort, due to an interface to all common WMS and ERP systems.
inventAIRy X offers a complete solution, which the consumers can deploy independently in their warehouses. The combination of drone and ground vehicle allows the automated navigation through the high rack warehouse, without sufficient GPS connection. The AGV operates completely autonomous with the help of the integrated inventAIRy X software and navigates through the warehouse based on determined geographical compositions. Thanks to its size the doks. solution can also be used in narrow aisles.
Besides the navigation, the AGV also ensures that the batteries of the drone are fully charged and ready for use. This allows the continuous operation of the inventAIRy X drone, which flies to every pallet slot, detecting and scanning bar codes. The drone is equipped with a high-resolution camera, that takes pictures of the pallet and the pallet rack during the scanning process. The user can retrieve and view the collected stock data on the handheld in real time. The inventAIRy X software transfers the collected and processed data via an interface to all common WMS and ERP systems.

The smart combination of an AGV (automated guided vehicle) quasi as a mother ship and a drone as a free-flying camera allows a maximum of independent recording of the stock. Labels with extremely high degrees of freedom are recognized and registered. The navigation and control are done from the AGV, on which the drone also lands if necessary.
The system works robustly and effectively, but according to the manufacturer it takes about two minutes per storage location. Regular use in environments that are also to be used by people in parallel seems rather difficult.
The whole system is a good application for drones – and a nice approach to inventory management.
With two minutes processing time per load carrier and regular battery replacement, the system is not very performant.
